While most of her friends here spent their weekends standing
in line to nab a table at a restaurant so overcrowded they’d dine with elbows
in their backs, Lydia could be found, more often than not, out in Rye with her
sister, pushing broccoli puree inside of rigatoni so that little Jane would get
some veggies down, or sitting with Sally’s eldest, Lucy, on a stack of hay as
Peter rode Beltello around and around.
